My couch is a twin memory foam mattress on a rustic wood frame with wood arm rests. The product is used to cover this mattress, and I have multiple throw pillows for use as backrests. The fabric that I ordered I will use to cover some of those pillows. I wouldn't have described the fabric as heavy weight, but if it lasts I would call it sturdy.
